Each year, the excitement for the release of the new season’s Premier League fixture list seems to grow in intensity.

Who will we have on the opening day? What about the last day of the season? Boxing Day and the wider festive period? When do we play Everton, Arsenal, Manchester City/United? And so on.

For Liverpool in 2026/27 specifically, there will be a desire to get off to a fast start after the troubles of last term. Ideally, we’d like to see any new signings – like Victor Munoz – hitting the ground running, with an uptick in form from those who struggled somewhat in 2025/26.

There was barely a dry eye in the house as Liverpool drew 1-1 with Brentford to round out the 2025/26 season.

Not so much at the result, although that in itself was a fitting way to sign off on a campaign that could best be described as average at best, but as Anfield rose to bid a fond farewell to both Mo Salah and Andy Robertson.

If you watched Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in April 2026, you might have been perplexed by the fan protest that took place inside Anfield.

After 13 minutes of play, a number of supporters around the venue brandished an oversized yellow card.

It wasn’t a protest against the standard of refereeing. Instead, Liverpool fans wanted to make their feelings visibly clear about proposed ticket price increases that the club’s owners plan to implement.

Liverpool came into the 2025/26 season with high hopes, having won the Premier League title by a clear 10 points in Arne Slot’s first campaign in charge. They made a fast start, too, winning their first five league matches on the spin, although often leaving things very late in the day.

The Reds’ form deserted them after that, however, as they then lost six of their next seven games in the Premier League, effectively scuppering their title defence before the end of November.

It’s a day we all knew was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept.

Mo Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season. The Egyptian brings the curtain down on his nine-year Anfield career at the culmination of what has been a tough campaign for all involved at the club, but he leaves a legend nonetheless.

A club statement confirmed that Salah wanted to announce his decision prior to the end of the season to provide ‘transparency about his future’, while the club will ensure that one of their modern greats gets a fitting send-off.

When his long and illustrious playing career finally comes to an end, with which club will James Milner be most inextricably linked?

For many, it will be Liverpool. Milner made 230 Premier League appearances for the Reds, which gave him a serious leg-up in his bid to become the competition’s most capped player.

And that finally came to pass in February 2026, when Milner started for Brighton in a game against Brentford – his 654th Premier League appearance, which broke the previous record held by Gareth Barry.

Although it doesn’t stand out as a particularly important fixture on paper, Liverpool’s Champions League date with Azerbaijani minnows Qarabag in January 2026 was significant.

The Reds needed at least a point to secure their automatic passage into the knockout phase of the competition – defeat could have seen forced to win a play-off game to proceed to the last 16.

Thankfully, the fans needn’t have worried, as a quickfire double from Alexis Mac Allister and Florian Wirtz set the tone for a 6-0 demolition job.

There is just something about these big European nights that brings the best out of Liverpool Football Club. And that was in evidence again during the Qarabag contest, where a record crowd was in attendance to vociferously cheer their heroes on in a must-win encounter.
